An Unforeseen Motive takes place in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1932, the early days of the Great Depression, and an era rife with the challenges of keeping body and soul together for too many. On summer break from teaching, Winslow & Fitzgerald accept a commission to investigate the slaying of a young labor contractor. As the title implies, the key to solving the mystery turns out to be understanding the motive for the murder, a task Evelyn and Flora are uniquely qualified to sleuth out.
