Second, the My Favorite Independently Published Mystery this month is Backcountry, the latest in Pamela Beason’s Sam Westin wilderness mystery series. If you like Nevada Barr, you’ll love this series. What’s more, I have heard a rumor that Estela Nogales may soon head off on her first backpacking expedition with Sam Westin, so you’ll want to get to know Sam this summer.

Lastly, as you recall, the last mystery, Deadly Disguise, wrapped up just as the semester was ending on campus. Estela is now home on her front porch, hoping for a relaxing summer in Arroyo Loco. Not for long, though, as it appears danger may lurk on the horizon. And I don’t mean only those rampaging wild boar, either. Could it be a fifth book in the series is in the works?
