Favorite Mysteries
Today is September 1st, the day I change my “favorite independently published mystery” over there on the right sidebar of this page. I am hosting this feature in support of my fellow independently published authors. As you may know, publishing in this country has become consolidated into fewer and larger companies. The same is true in airlines, energy providers, and many other fields. This limits competition and causes prices to rise. You’ve probably noticed, even ebooks coming out of the five remaining large publishing firms are priced $8.00 and above! Independent publishing gives authors control over content and pricing, but it can also make finding quality reads harder.
Last month I recommended Pamela Beason’s The Only Witness. This is the story of a kidnapping witnessed only by a gorilla trained in a sign language. I enjoyed this creative plot and well-written story. The Only Witness is available on Kindle and Nook for only 99 cents, and Pamela has several other novels you might also enjoy.
This month I’m suggesting another of my independently published favorites, The Body Business by Gay Yellen. Well-plotted and carefully edited, suspense is the strength of this mystery. Yellen’s first novel, The Body Business is available on Kindle for $2.99.
Missing Mom is still on schedule for a February 2016 release. Excitingly, the editor tells me Missing Mom is “without a doubt the strongest of the three” in the Estela Nogales series! The cover artist is also hard at work, trying to decide where the dogs should go on this next cover.
Do you have a favorite independently published mystery you would like to suggest? If you’re like me, I know you’re always looking for new reads.
It’s not intuitively obvious to me who I am replying to, or about what. And what is the website bar above for? I would like to leave a comment about Cherie’s writing style, which I find very amusing and interesting, but not sure this is the appropriate place.
You are replying to me, Cherie. Your comments and my reply are also visible to the other people who have subscribed, all of whom are friends and readers. Thanks for the compliment!
